I have worked in the graphic arts industry for nearly 30 years. I specialise in Marketing & Sales, Design & Artwork, Print and Project Management. I also enjoying Photography and all types of Digital Media.

Many people have suggested that I create a place to showcase some of my favourite commercial projects, as well as a few personal ones. So here it is. This site includes some of the photography I do in my spare time, and work in progress pieces from the latest CGI software I am studying.

I am passionate about what I do, which reflects in my work. Whatever I take on, I am thorough and precise, but ultimately creative. I am happy to sit and explain any process that has been involved in a job, in as much detail my client wishes.

Years of experience has seen me make new friends and keep longstanding clients, because they know that they are in creative, capable and safe hands.

If you like what you see and wish to explore how we could work together, please give me a call or message me.

My CV timeline can be found here.

Thanks for visiting my site.

Marketing & Sales

As a business owner for sixteen years and board director for the previous five, I have always been sales focused, to facilitate growth and diversify the business. I’ve been fortunate enough to work with and add some high profile clients to the portfolio. These include ongoing, long term relationships with Konica Minolta, Champagne Bollinger, Adidas, British Gas, easyProperty, ITV, John Lewis, Ratesetter, Royal Bank of Canada, Swatch, Nyetimber and more.

I’ve been responsible for the marketing of our own business, Datum, for which I’ve managed everything, from strategy and creation, to deployment. This year includes the creation of different promotional campaigns throughout the year, such as direct mailing pieces to clients, videos, e-shots, regular social media posts and managing the website. Our marketing campaign was recognised by the industry, being a finalist for the Print Week Awards as well as being in three categories at the Print, Design and Marketing Awards, including best Cross-Media Campaign, Best Use of Social Media and Best Website.

Graphic Design

I don’t just create innovative design, I have a real passion for it. My experience comes from being hands on, not through study. I have worked with many world class brands and have been involved from the outset in pre-production meetings with Marks & Spencer for their yearly Christmas range, from concept through to delivery, and producing the artwork on all their seasonal packaging, as well as general POS items. I was also involved with the rebrand to T-Mobile, managing a studio of 15 people. My skill set for design and artwork varies, from creating packaging, brochures, and logos suitable for both digital and print formats. I also have extensive experience in taking briefs and managing products, whilst liaising with creative directors and designers. Due to the rapid changes we are seeing in this sector, I am constantly learning to push boundaries and to stay ahead of the curve.

Print & Print Management

I have been involved with print for nearly thirty years and have grown from an apprentice and employee, to a director and then co-owner of Datum, a leading print company that offers a complete service from digital and litho printing, to large format print and graphic installation. This journey has seen me develop various skills within the printing industry - particularly colour management, prepress, scanning, proofing and retouching. In this respect, I have achieved considerable in-depth knowledge and experience of running and growing a successful printing company. I have overseen the transition at Datum from a high end prepress company, to a full print service provider. I was also influential in the introduction of the digital and litho presses, along with a large format offering. Over the years I have also built up a large network for outsourced services, including direct mail, web offset printing and branded merchandise.

Project Management

I continually work on projects across all sectors, which require clear and precise management, from small exhibitions to large scale projects that need concept & design through to production, logistics and installation. Some of my projects include: Managing the installation of 300 di-bond panels at Canterbury Cathedral, the 6 Nations Rugby, Royal Ascot, and many football clubs including Arsenal, Charlton and Crystal Palace. I truly believe that clear project management, attention to detail and the ability to be flexible is the key to any successful job.

Photography began as my passion, but over the years it has gradually crossed over into my commercial life. I have completed several college courses and some directly with Nikon, which include Food, Product and Portrait Photography. I have invested in high end equipment along with studio lighting and I often work on site at clients’ premises.  I have worked on many different projects, including photography for product catalogues, social media, food, POS and architecture. I also produce all the photography for our own marketing campaigns at Datum. I enjoy the post production process just as much as shooting. This would typically include the conversion of RAW files, any image manipulation and retouching. I’m fortunate to be able to bring what started off as a hobby into my commercial life. In my spare time I also enjoy travel photography.

I have recently got involved with Publishing with the formation of Brigand Press - Brigand is a micro-publishing company formed with three authors looking to publish their first book.

Digital Media

Despite my background, I don’t have a preference between digital or print media, as I appreciate both formats. I’ve always enjoyed new technology and I enjoy learning different digital applications, many of which have been self-taught. This includes building websites on a number of platforms including WordPress, Square Space and Joomla, HTML email campaigns, basic video editing, eBooks and, most recently, digital publishing for tablets and completing an Adobe DPS course. This has allowed me to deliver many successful online campaigns for clients, quickly switching between different formats and liaising with brand owners, to consistently ingrate the output seamlessly, across multiple platforms. Most recently I have been learning Adobe After Effects and CGI with Cinema 4D to complement my existing skillset.
